Ankylosaurus is the ultimate defensive specialist of the Late Cretaceous, often described as a "living tank." Its skull is a marvel of biological armor, heavily reinforced with fused bone plates called caputegulae that cover nearly every inch of the surface. The head is extremely broad and triangular, featuring four distinct pyramidal horns projecting from the back corners to protect the neck from predators like T. rex. Unlike the sharp teeth of carnivores, its jaws end in a broad, toothless beak designed for non-selectively cropping massive amounts of low-lying vegetation, which was then ground down by rows of small, leaf-shaped teeth deep inside the mouth.
