Kronosaurus was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the Early Cretaceous seas, a massive pliosaur named after the Greek Titan Kronos, who devoured his own children. Unlike the long-necked Elasmosaurus, Kronosaurus had a short, thick neck and a colossal skull that could reach nearly 3 meters (9 feet) in length. Its jaws were lined not with serrated blades, but with thick, conical teeth—some up to 30 cm long—that lacked cutting edges. These were designed for pure crushing power, allowing it to shatter the shells of giant turtles and the bones of other marine reptiles with a bite force that rivaled T. rex.
